PC Gamer [GARRAFA-瓷器]

Video installation with hardware

– Special edition of CubaCreative and Made in Taiwan | 台灣製造 series in collaboration with Cathy Hsiao  –

PC Gamer [GARRAFA-瓷器] is a unique edition of the CubaCreativa an ongoing art research project focusing on documents innovation and upgrades creative designs of gamers from the global south and Made in Taiwan | 台灣製造 series, traces these supply chains, plays with questions of value and explores the relationships between how we produce digital technology products and how these products in turn produce interdependent digital and social practices.

PC Gamer [GARRAFA-瓷器] presents interventions in multiple technological realities as connected parts of larger digital global networks, and builds an artificially intelligent economy into the populist, experimental practice of ‘case modding.’ The electronic components were made by Lenovo (Taiwan)  and every other part of the computer, including la garrafa aka the plastic water bottle, and the aluminum rails, was made in China. This project incorporates the philosophy of DIY open-source hardware communities into the design of the gamer computer chassis. It introduces for the first time 3D printed and cobalt glazed Delftware as part of a PC chassis, mimicking Chinese porcelain in both design and material and inserting into the context of creative modding the history of Delftware as attempts at reproducing Chinese technologies for 青花 porcelain.

This project was supported, in part, by a Foundation for Contemporary Arts Emergency Grant

15th Bienal de La Habana in the Centro de Arte Wilfredo Lam.
